SomniTine does not provide breathing guidance. This independent exercise is optional, and it should never feel like a performance target.

A Practical 4-7-8 Pattern

  1. Inhale softly through the nose for about 4 counts.
  2. Hold for about 7 counts.
  3. Exhale slowly for about 8 counts.
  4. Repeat only while the pattern feels easy.

Keep It Sustainable

  • If 7 or 8 feels too long, shorten both by one count.
  • Keep shoulders and jaw relaxed.
  • Do not force a long hold or exhale.

When To Stop

Stop immediately if you feel dizzy, short of breath, anxious, or uncomfortable. If you have a health condition or want to use breathing exercises for a medical concern, ask a qualified health professional.

What the evidence says

The U.S. National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health describes slow breathing as one type of relaxation technique, but notes that evidence for relaxation techniques alone as a sleep treatment is limited. Read its relaxation techniques overview.

Try the routine with a touch instrument

Use SomniTine for touch-generated sound, optional haptics, and a fixed ten-minute session. Stop whenever the experience is not comfortable.
